I dont think you really took in the lesson, this has strait ramps (no hue-shifting), and really saturated colors. also, never use pure black. quick edit to just show how to make it better (just did the carrot, it should give you ideas)
![]() look at the colors i used. i shifted the hues and saturation, and added more contrast. Sure, the style may have been changed, but you can still look at the things i did (like fading out the lines, using AA, and adding detail) |

Hmmm....what the lesson meant, was that you had to move between three hue's, but you must make those hues contrast...........for example i got a brown contrast from orange yellow and a light green.....
they also they have to be right next to each other on the color wheel. This post has been edited by Jim16 on Sep 12 2008, 02:46 PM -------------------- |

I kinda get it now, but I might not have time, because of my game.

just understand that if you always quit after the original WIP, you'll never get better.

not true......he's busy with a game.....for one he's learned that he did it wrong. and secondly when it comes to pixel art things recur. so the fact is that he has his hole life to fix this small mistake.

I do not want to quit, but I am trying to make a REALLY good game. If you saw the graphics for it, you would understand. (I am paying for them because I could never make sprites this good
.) |

I'm thinking that I might need to add a fair bit to the lesson, hopefully I will be able to cover most things in the lesson overview.
Ok your colours... ![]() Here is the colour selector, your hues and saturations are mapped on here, as you can see they are all pretty high up in terms of saturation. The blue section represents an area where saturation differentiation is noticable, the pink area represents the area where you can get a really strong level of saturation and it will practically be fully saturated (the arrow is there to say if you are using that level of saturation it is practically the same as using any level of saturation above it, these kinds of colours should be used sparingly). Bellow the blue area is pretty much grey colours (hence should usually be avoided). All these areas are made up sloppily by me and selection is influenced when you throw in luminocity. So using these rough ideas of what is sensible and not here are a couple of edit/colour edits: ![]() Both of the colour edits are acceptable, the one on the left is more towards an analogous colour scheme (also rather tight in hue varience). If you look at the shadows they are rather desaturated reds (brown pretty much). The midtone and above are pretty much saturated from the pink area and up. I did this as it will really pop out the colour, we are showing a carrot and orange is very potent in a carrots colouring. I also kept the highlight very saturated, this was done so the yellow tone was more visible. I could have desaturated the top highlight more and increased it's luminocity but I felt this would make it to white, and didn't want to slimey/shiney a look. The second carrot uses a more complimentary/extreme analogous colour scheme. You might notice it ditches a colour thanks to the purple allowing for a blend into the green. More of a concern in this piece is the lack of volume definition, even if you had intended on a cartoony style, shading showing depth and shape should be present. To cite a good thread currentyl running: Example of Cartoon Shading. I know you might not be working on this much more, but I still think this will be useful to you and others. -------------------- ![]() - Pixel Class - Learn the Zen of Pixel Art. |
