Well, I came across this profile page of Ray's at RLZoo...when I read it, I thought it was much in depth about Raymond's family, life, career, etc. Therefore, I decided to translate the long profile of his posted up by Naive @ RLZoo I had some help translating words or phrases that I couldn't understand from Fox All of the information are credited to their respective sources.

I hope these information on Raymond will help those of you fans out there who wants to know more about Raymond's past. And maybe more information to acknowledge in which you never knew of! LOL! Alrighty, here we go!!

Who is Raymond Lam? Where did he come from?

When was Raymond born?

Raymond was born on December 8, 1979 in Xiamen, China. He was born in the year of the goat.
Horoscope: He’s a Sagittarius [they are compatible with Gemini]

During his childhood days, he was known as Lam Wui Man.

When Wui Man was 2 years old, his family moved to Hong Kong. He went to elementary and junior high school in Hong Kong. Meanwhile, his dad’s, Lam Wah Kwok, career started to develop in Xiamen [so Raymond lived in HK, and his dad in Xiamen]. Raymond’s grandpa is Taiwanese. He loves his grandchild [Raymond], and so does Raymond vice versa. Because living in a family with different dialects, Raymond was taught how to speak Mandarin, Cantonese, and Taiwanese.

According to some confirmed and unconfirmed sources, since little Lam Wui Man loves cartoon [anime], singing, and art. Therefore, it was the reason why he left the university to enter the entertainment industry.

According to a source, when he was 15 years old, he went to the home of Chu Pong Bo [a very famous female singer in Shanghai, China] by himself to ask her if she can take him in as her student; he lived at her house to study music.

Chu Pong Bo’s impression on Lam Wui Man was: “I remember on that day, someone knocked on my door, and when I opened the door, I saw a young boy with a backpack on and fair clothing [it’s like his clothing weren’t rich nor poor looking]. He politely greeted me and said, “Excuse me madam, I have come to ask you if I can be your student and learn music.”

Grandpa Lam Mung Fei (1904 - 1994) - a well-known general in Xiamen; A library in Xiamen is named after him.
He was the first person to develop a company that produces film reels in Xiamen...this thing... film reels

Raymond has Spanish blood in him from his dad's side
Raymond did confirmed to a fan's mother (because she personally asked Raymond herself) that he is 1/16 Spanish. Since he is ONLY 1/16 Spanish, he probably, as you can see he does not look Spanish; however, he does have Spanish blood in him.

Oh, and its his great great grandma (dad side). Breaking it down to make sense..

Wui Man has grown….

Lam Wui Man has grown, and changed his name to Lam Yat Fung during his high school years. He stands at 180cm or 5’11”. His skin was very tanned. He often joined singing competitions at school. The honorable thing is that Yat Fung received and gained the recognition of “The top 10 best voices of the school.” With this title, Wui Man became the “popular boy” having to answer his fans’ mails to the point where his hand became tired, he had to ask his friends to help him.

Yat Fung joined the basketball team in high school in Xiamen [Woot! His sweat wrist band is #11!! When I played basketball, I was #11 as well!!]

When he finished high school, Lam Yat Fung went to study abroad in Southern California at University of Southern California [it is a private school] He was majoring in architecture as to take over his dad’s business one day, and minored in music. At this time, Yat Fung, again, changed his name to Lam Fung with an English name, Raymond [he used to have another English name before sticking with Raymond…it was Leon].

However, he attended college for only one year. In the summer, after his first year in college, he flew back to Hong Kong. Because of Chan Kwoon Ming's words, a friend of Raymond’s dad, Raymond gave up on achitecture, and joined TVB.
He introduced Raymond to go into TVB 13th acting class [with Tavia Yeung, Patrick Tang Yeung Ming]. Raymond joined the TVB family at the age of 18.

Raymond's words: There had been rumors saying that he's Li Hau Wor (one of the TVB owners)'s godson, Raymond honestly replied:

"Actually, my father knows Chan Kwoon Ming, who was one of the actors manager in the past. In 1998, we had a dinner together, and Mr. Chan asked me if I have any interest in being an actor. I've always knew that I'm not the type to do business, and since Mr. Chan thought I have the potential, I decided to join the training class. I worked hard by myself, without any help from others. Acting is my first job, and the one I'm most familar with, if I don't act, I don't know what else I can do, and I know that I still have a lot to learn."

Raymond Lam Fung

Raymond started out as a reporter for a Mandarin news channel - TVB8, and was there for 8 months (1999 - 2000). After that, he took part in a TVB show with Patrick Tang in 2000 in which they went to Indonesia. He then had opportunities to take small roles in a few TVB series. People began to take notice of Raymond for his roles in A Taste of Love and A Step into the Past.

Whilst he was getting recognition, at this point in his career, there were some difficulties due to his identity. Hong Kong newspapers and magazines continued printing out talking about the rich Lam family in which Raymond belongs to. That is when people started to say that due to his dad’s power and money, Raymond was in the industry. Nevertheless, with his own efforts and hard work, Raymond was able to prove to the people that he worked hard to earn his title and what he has today; therefore, pushing some of the rumor away.

In 2007, Raymond officially signed a contract with EEG, and finally, released his first album on November 23, 2007. His first album was well received by the audience, and Raymond received the golden disc. This can be seen as a very good beginning for Raymond in his singing career.

On September 10, 2008, Raymond released his second album titled "Your Love". This second album of his had an even greater success than the first! Almost about one month later on October 13, 2008, EEG held a celebration party for Raymond's "Your Love" success. This time, they did not presented him with a gold record disc, but they had presented him the PLATINUM RECORD DISC!

Raymond Born Poor Or Rich?

He always said that he was born poor and his dad's business is better when his sister was born (when he was 7).

His grandpa is a general of the old government. He later became a grand businessman. But after that, because of the politic of the new government, his family became poor. Raymond's dad and his uncle had to work in the construction and his grandma had to sell some stuff on the street. After that, his father's business became better when they moved to HK.

Raymond Lam is from a big family, and is the eldest son and grandson, so the family has high hopes on him. He has more stress than any normal person, but he never gives up, and worked hard through these 10 years.

He describes his family as internationally, because often times when he works overseas, he meet with his relatives. This time portraying a rich boy must be easy for him. He says, in reality, he can't choose his own family, and it's totally different from his character. A spoiled brat doesn't have pressure and would only ask his parents for money to enjoy life and not work. However, in real life, Raymond's under a lot of stress, because he's the eldest son, so he has to establish an example. Also his family has high hopes on him, causing him to have more pressure than others.

Ways To Relax Himself

Family gives pressure....job gives pressure....being an older brother is a pressure..how does Raymond relax himself?

"That's easy! Eating, and playing video games. I love to eat seafood, maybe because Xiamen has lots of seafood due to its location near the sea. Oysters are my favorite, my grandmother is already 80 something, so I visit her every year. My relationship with my family is very close, when my parents were not in Hong Kong, I always join other family reunions."

"Eating oysters are good for men?"

"I don't know, I just know I love it; oysters with white wine are the best combination. I have friends who open oyster bars, however I get sick everytime I eat it. Also, lately the oysters from USA have many bacteria in them, so I don't eat it as much. Also, I love to eat hot pot because you can eat while you talk."

Raymond is a guy who never gives up. The pressure has become his motivation to work, plus his competitve personality is why he chose this road. Since the decision is made, he tried his best to accomplish something, to prove that he can support himself. In these recent years, he haven't asked his parents for money anymore, and has set a good example for his younger siblings.

Raymond and rhinoplasty surgery? (cosmetic surgery to improve the appearance of the nose)

Raymond said that he has sinusitis [inflammation of the sinuses or a sinus, especially in the nasal region]. Since he had sinusitis, it was hard for him to normally breathe. Therefore, Raymond had to have a surgery to fix this problem.
That's why reporters made up the rumor that Raymond had a rhinoplasty. Just because Raymond had surgery on his nasal, reporters assumed that he had rhinoplasty surgery.

Pets: Not only that Raymond has a female Siberian Husky (Mimi) whose fur is gray / black / white, but he also owns a male SibFerian Husky name Cooper, whose fur is white / golden light brown. Due to the fact that Mimi dislikes Cooper, Raymond had to give Cooper to his family members to take care of him.

Fact: Raymond says that his mom is afraid of dogs ^^

Kat: Well, yesterday, I went to a pet store and asked about the price of a Siberian Husky. They told me that usually, a puppy Siberian Husky cost around $1,200 - $1,500 USD.

- Raymond mentioned in an interview that when he was younger, he did not want a chauffer to take him to school, but instead, he wanted and did used the school bus just like other students to get to school
- In school, Raymond would sometimes sleep or read his mangas; however, he mentioned that he never really did finish any of the mangas that he read
- Raymond's room was once filled with lots of presents. He said that it's more like a MIMI room than his
- He bought Mimi with the presence of his best friend Ron Ng; Raymond loves Mimi to death
- Mimi chose her own name. Raymond said that he thought of a bunch of names, and she just answered to "MIMI"

He wants her to be understanding because he does not like to explain himself too much. Also, she must know how to take care of a family; that is really important to him.

When Raymond sees a girl with a ponytail, he would take a quick glance at her.

Why does Raymond like girls with a ponytail?
The reason is because is ex-girlfriend, who was his first and only girlfriend, had a ponytail. Probably, his ex-girlfriend had left a deep impression in his heart, that is why he still likes girls with a ponytail. A faithful person I should say

Raymond used to prefer a girlfriend outside the industry; however, he changed his mind and said that it doesn’t matter anymore.

Abt his sis's name... I found this character for Mỗ on a viet-chinese dictionary:

english: (used before measure word and noun) some; certain; so and so

This is what I found on the web abt this word... But not so sure that this is the exact word, cuz it's quite strange used as a name...
plus: "yan" is rarely used as a female name... it's usually a male name, never heard it used for a female...

There were some things I didn't know abt him...
-that his family moved to HK when he was 7
-that he went to elementary and junior high school in Hong Kong, but then back to Xiamen for high school
-that his english name before Raymond was Leon...

Our Young Master...

It is a way of addressing Raymond in which all of his fans should know. If the words “young master” is mentioned, immediately we all would know who it is addressing. The start of addressing Raymond as “young master” started when he was filming “Blade Heart”.

During the process of filming “Blade Heart,” Raymond was taking some medication due to that he was involved in an accident earlier. Therefore, Raymond’s dad, was worried for his son, so he sent an assistant to go with Raymond to take care of him. This assistant addresses Raymond as “young master.” Since then, rumors began. The man below is the assistant who was sent to take care of Raymond.

Raymond Encounters Strange Moments...
According to Raymond, in an interview, he said that he had encountered a few strange moments before; however, there are two that he remembers very clearly.

1. Where is my shirt?
One time, when he came home really late one night, he went straight to bed. When he went to bed, he had clothing on. Then, the next morning, when he woke up, he found himself chest nude. The weather during that night was quite hot. The thought was that because it was hot, Raymond awoke and took off his shirt, but because he was still somewhat sleeping or was too sleepy to have his mind fully awake, he did not remember anything...

2. The Non-cooperating Door...
One day, at the filming studio, Raymond wanted to take a rest. So, he headed to a room to do so. The problem was that he couldn't turn the knob on the door. Raymond thought that someone inside was joking around with him. After a while of pushing and asking whoever is on the other side to open the door, finally the door was able to be opened. But the strange thing was that when he opened the door, he didn't see anyone inside the room.... And so, he walked away from that room...

Funny incidents that occurred during the filming of "Twin of Brothers".

One time, Ron secretly went into Raymond's hotel room and turned off the air conditioner in the room. Raymond was mad the next day he woke up.

There was another time where Raymond slept in Ron's hotel room. When morning came, the air conditioner was turned off, Ron was covered by four or five blankets, and Raymond was nowhere to be seen.

Yan 9as in CKY) is a common name for cantonese females.
If it's "Yun" as in Damian Lau Chung Yan, then it's usually for males.

But I heard fox(?) or someone here said that it's "yan", pronouced like the canto word for "people", like in Damien's name... that's why I found it weird...o_O

As for the word "mau", I'm not sure at all! That was the only word I found for the viet word Mỗ, but, u know, these translations are not always so accurate, especially for names, chinese names translated into viet are very variable...
e.g.: the word TaiChi in viet is "Thái cực", translated in canto is "Tai Gik", while the same word "Thái " used as a surname(btw it's my surname...^^) in viet, in canto is translated into "Choi"(like Charlene Choi)...
So the same word Thái could be translated in canto with both "Tai" and "Choi"...

So, before changing it, we should have the actual chinese character...
BTW, who translated this bio in viet at RLzoo? I think this person should have the original article/bio in chinese, with the chinese names...right? We can ask her/him...

it was about his granpa was very famous in Xiamen therefore fung is rich since he was born...

after that, that articles was about his dad too...xiamen lee ka sing and so on...

i agree with blumonkee. Ray never said he was born rich. The family later became rich because of his father's business.
His grandpa may be famous (a former general?) but not necessarily rich.
Besides he has 2 grandpas. R we talking abt de same grandpa ?
More likely to be reporters reporting wrongly abt de age & time differences.
