Later that day, the party was ambushed by bandits just a kilometer outside of Treno. Most likely, they were taking advantage of the distraction unwittingly provided by Vix's escape; fully half the city's overworked guards were occupied with tracking the fox (though they had not yet met with success).
But regardless of the cause of the bandits' success, the fact of it remained. Nala managed to escape, thanks to the attackers being momentarily distracted by Kali's horribly off-key singing. The bard and samurai themselves, however, were not so lucky. They were taken captive for a time, later escaping elsewhere . . .
