I am hoping to have a significant presence for Living Forgotten Realms at Arcon IX, for those of you that haven't my long rant on LFR it is the Living Campaign for D&D 4th Ed. A Living Campaign is the best of both worlds in many ways between campaigns and one-shots. The idea is that anybody can run an adventure provided players bring the right level characters and they follow basic guidelines and rules so that players get a similar experience at any table. As a result you can literally play your characters at any table anywhere and accumulate gold, xp, items, etc much like a campaign but with the con-friendliness and portability of a one-shot.

I have been running some games last Spring and I ran a single one at Arcon, this is a fairly popular type of event at alot of cons and gaming store and we just happen to have a big of a blackhole around Oswego. My initial hope is to have several LFR games at Arcon IX instead of just one, they advertise themselves (and the con) automatically through Wizards of the Coast and many con-goers will go hundreds of miles to a con with a number of LFR games.

Now I know each year we try and get members to run games, something that can be a daunting for new GMs but running a LFR adventure is fairly simple (in comparsion) since its free, prewritten and written for 3.5 - 4 hour con slots for the most part. Likewise you can save time by not needing pregens since players need to bring their own LFR characters. In addition being a regular GM can get you a number of rewards that WOTC on occasion sends out. In short this is a very easy way to GM a game at Arcon without much work.

In terms of local players, about a dozen or so people have valid LFR characters (hoping to increase that by con time). We have been currently running adventures for Lvl 1-4 (valid characters have to begin at Lvl 1) but I'd like to break us into having Lvl 4-7 and maybe Lvl 7-10 adventures by Arcon. If we get any LFR players from elsewhere they will probably have some higher level characters.

I have been talking to a lot of people in the area that are LFR players and LFR administrators and we might even be able to get one of the administrators at Arcon in some capacity, maybe just to run some LFR games or maybe more (we need a con date before I can move on that).

Now if we have a number of games running, diehard LFR fans (who I mentioned often travel across the country to play in a couple of games in a row, meet other LFR players, etc) are used to playing GenCon prices even after other expenses so our typical Arcon prices would be nothing to them.

Lastly, WOTC offers con support packages for about 20 bucks each for both MTG and D&D. While I'm not sure about the MTG ones I know that each D&D package comes with some book (something in the 20-30 dollar range), a smaller item (something in the 10-15 dollar range), a bunch of free minis and a bunch of D&D rewards cards (if anybody remembers the Hackmaster player coupons, like that but can be used repeatedly) that we can hand out, have drawings for, etc for players and GMs. I plan to get at least one kit by default, but the more LFR games that are planned the more kits I'll look into getting. This will depend partly on whatever Arcon committee is willing to help me pay for them, etc.

Moved topic to ARCON Public discussion.

Sounds like a decent idea. I know I'm not really interesting in LFR, but I know you have a number of people who are.

Just one suggestion: don't limit to to just the people you know have characters that will be of higher levels. Running level 1-4 modules would be a good idea for those don't necessarily play LFR normally or don't live/go to school in Oswego but travel fro the con. Just catering to the people you already have makes it sound more like a minicon sort of deal to me.

Also, finances for kits. As of right now, no idea from my end.

If Green's idea takes off the way he wants it too, there will be multiple people running games. I'm certain it will be very easy to run several level 1-4 campaigns.

I would be willing to run a game or two. Maybe in the Friday and/or Sunday slots. It sounds like a great idea and if we play our cards right, it will be a golden opportunity to market Arcon and attract a significant number of people.

Hey Green, I like the idea. Feel free to run with it.
I only have a vague idea of how i want the budget to work this year.

Anything to get us more advertising is great.
Closer to the con, if you can get me an idea of how much you would need, i can see if we can work something out.

Still trying to see what I can do this early, but frankly its a very easy way for people to run games since the adventures are already created. Once we get a firm date I'll have more information. I do know since we have a con under 500 people we'd be limited to 5 packages I think but thats more then enough anyway.

One thing to add, for those you feel they are too creative to follow a preplanned module there is a thing known as "My Realms" or MYRE for short where you can create your own module within a certain frame of restrictions (have to keep to proper xp budgets, they limit what you can offer as treasure/awards, have to follow rpga rules, can't make your own monsters per say, etc). There is one of these for every level set (1-4, 4-7, 7-10, etc).

Possibility on attendance by Shawn Merwin, not sure if he'd want to be a special guest or not or just merely attend. Gave him the date and he didn't see anything on his calendar that would immediately conflict and would let me know more accurately down the road.
