In the old TP forum we had a competition about March or April last year with different categories. Accio made banners to put on people's posts eg the Sybil Trelawney award, the Rita Skeeter award and the Colin Creevey award. Would we be doing something similar this year? It doesn't have to have as many choices as last time.

That competition was right around the time I joined TP. I didn't really know what was going on with it, it just seemed like they were awards in variuos categories, and the people were nominated based on their posts, but not anything like a writing competition. Is that how it went, or am I off?

Anyway, I have a couple of ideas for different contests, though many are probably stupid. I'll post them anyway, and you can tell me what you think! I am making the assumption that these are to be HP-themed contests, so correct me if I'm wrong.

-HP themed song parodies
-HP themed ads (I was thinking along the lines of the ads JKR has running along the bottom of her Rumors section on her site)
-HP poetry contest (i.e. from the pov of a student, or teacher, or muggle; just with a particular theme like the monologues were, it could even be an ode to HP written by us, the fans)
-More monologues (those were fun-I'd like to see some from the POV of some students, Sirius, or DEs or Voldemort, that would be interesting)
-Writing a portion of the HP books, but from another's perspective - either someone involved, or of an outsider observing what's happening
-A made-up dialogue between 2 characters who we haven't seen have a real dialogue before - I like the idea of 2 clashing personalities, such as when McGonagall and Umbridge were discussing Harry's future in OotP, that was great!)--btw, this one wasn't my idea, it was brought up by someone else in chat
-An "If These Things Could Speak" contest, involving either objects (as we've already done), or from the POV of a creature, preferably one that doesn't speak
-A dialogue between house-elves, or maybe a convention, where Dobby tries to get people to quit

Ok, I'm not coming up with many good ones, and they're just getting worse. But maybe these'll spark some ideas in some of you. Lets hear what you think!

We should have maybe fanfiction contests where peole get given a basic story and then have to write a fanfiction based on that.

Or maybe fanart contests, though it doesn't look like there's be all that many entries if we had that.

Maybe avatar contests and stuff like that..?

And we should definitely do the ThinkPotter awards again sometime.

I'd like to see us have a theory contest. Kind of like "How does stuff in HP work?" For instance, I'd like to hear philosophies on how the portraits work. The people on this board are really creative. I'd love to see what kind of stuff we could come up with.

It's true. It seems there are more of us around that can write, but we shouldn't forget the artists. Maybe we should all try to submit something visual and have the artists judge us!

Theory is also a fun idea. (Did I ever tell you who I think the squid really is?)

I thought they were all good ideas! the dialogue idea had to do with pulling two characters' names out of a hat at random, and then imagining what they would have to say to each other. (Belorin suggested Uncle Vernon and Sybil Trelawney, and I about peedled myself imagining it.)

The idea of house elves debating about liberation is fabulous. I had a similar idea (but not as good) once about a group chat after hours in the owlery, trying to catch the personality differences of the various owls, that JKR makes so clear and so funny.

There's no end of ideas. biggrin.gif

I love the idea of random dialogue! I also like the idea of voicing the animals (like "If these things could speak"). I'd love to know how Buckbeak feels, post OotP... What the dragons in the first task thought... if they mourned the loss of the golden eggs... How Hedwig, Pig, Crookshanks all feel. Do they know how special their human friends are?
