acciofirebolt29 Final Duel!!! Everyone knows the rules by now so.... enjoy!!!
Will the house-elves join Dumbledore’s Army to fight the evil forces of Lord Voldemort? Yes!
Magical bond or not
Some may argue that house-elves have a magical bond with their masters, but is it a magical bond? We have seen examples of house-elves that have obviously went against what their masters would have them do. Dobby went against the Malfoys in the Chamber of Secrets to warn Harry Potter of trouble brewing. Dobby did this not once, but a multitude of times. I know many will say that Dobby is not the norm when it comes to house-elves, but another house elf has show this behavior as well…the lovable Kreacher. Kreacher deliberately bent what Sirius has said to cause trouble for the order. What have these two characters showed us…that house elves are not bound to their master by a magical bond because they show multiple times that they have free will.
This is a harsh comparison, but house-elves remind me of slavery in America. People with money buy these slaves to serve them. Some slaves, or in this case house-elves, may have felt there is a bond because they are supposedly “owned”. As in American history with slaves, people will eventually become sick of being treated like dirt and stand up and fight for their rights. If there is a magical bond of some sort, which I do not feel there is, I would say it is fightable some how from the actions of Dobby and Kreacher.
If there is no magical bond some house-elves will chose out of their free will to join Dumbledore and fight against Voldemort. I say this because Dobby says in CoS, “If he knew what he means to us, to the lowly, the enslaved, we dregs of the magical world! Dobby remembers how it was when He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named was at the height of his powers, sir! We house-elves were treated like vermin, sir! Of course, Dobby is still treated like that sir!” Like Dobby, some will chose to help so they will never be treated in that manner again.
What if there is a bond?
If there is a bond between house-elves and their masters, Dumbledore will still have house-elves on his side. According to the GoF, Hogwarts has the largest amount of house-elves of any single place in England. This also means that if those elves have a master it would be Dumbledore. If Dumbledore said that the house-elves at Hogwarts were to fight they would have to. Dumbledore would more than likely let them chose and we return back to their free will. If Dumbledore asks them or demands of them to fight, one way or another some will. Also house-elves belonging to anyone on the order would have this choice.
Some house-elves will join Dumbledore in the war against Voldemort. As stated in my argument, this will happen through free will or out of servitude, but it will happen. I will look for Dumbledore’s Army to have a bit of house-elves in it in the near future.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
House-elves will not join in the fight against Voldemort. There is no mention of house-elves uniting with wizard-kind during Voldemort’s first reign of power when, according to Dobby, house-elves were treated like vermin (COS10), so there is no reason to assume they would fight now.
A house-elf’s nature is to care for their master and their master’s family (COS10). They are meek, and passive, lowly in stature. Although they do possess their own special brand of magic they are forbidden to use it without their master’s permission (COS3). House-elves are in essence slaves. Their will is replaced by the will of the family they serve. They are not fighters, or warriors. House-elves fear to disobey their master, but even if they are so brave as to do so they must punish themselves severely for it (COS2).
The majority of wizard-kind aids in the oppression of the house-elf therefore would not take too kindly to fighting alongside them. As we have seen with Amos Diggory (GOF9), and countless others the bulk of the wizarding world has outright contempt for the poor little elves. It is for all these reasons that I submit to you that house-elves will definitely not be joining in the resistance to the Dark Lord, Voldemort. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Belorin Ah! The last duel, and another straight- forward yes/no topic, no less! This one was harder to decide, as brief as the spells were they brought the major points out. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
renee I like this topic...and my answer was easy to decide...great spells...good luck to both -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Skivin'Ivy Final duel? No!! -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cat_on_my_head Only for this round. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Evreka I've finally decided which side to vote for... -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
acciofirebolt29 And in good time, Evreka!!
This duel is closed and so end this round of the Dueling Club...which mean we have winners!!!
First off with this Duel I need to award points!!
Pufflehuff who presented the NO spell for Lovegoods Lunatics couldn’t pull off the votes to receive any points... so that is 0 pts for the team. And Chickybump who Dueled for a second time, on behalf of her team (in the absence of Superscott who was unable to Duel) Snapes Stompers receives 50pts!!
Chickybump did a great job for a second time and BTW has taken her team to first place in this round of the Dueling Club.
I am going to post final points and thoughts in the "Scoring, Teams, accolades..." thread!! -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chickybump Go Team!! lol. I think I could have done a better job on this duel, but you have to understand, it landed right during my finals week, so sorry it was short. I guess straight forward to the point can be nice sometimes. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
renee It was one of the best written chicky...I enjoyed it very much...congrats -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pufflehuff I'd like to thank my 3 voters. Perhaps in 2004 we will win the race!!!!! -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
