I know you're on the inside, you know that I'm looking out
For me, you're sitting pretty as I wallow in self-pity
And there's no coming back for me.

It was twilight. Jacob, stuffed into his 1986 Volkswagen Rabbit, was on his way off the reservation to go visit Dee at her house. She was usually done with dinner by seven, and that was the time now. As always, he was worried that she was walking the line of danger, a thinly spun tightrope that had the vampires swarming on one side, the invading werewolves on the other. And, if she lost her balance, that rope would let her fall to her gruesome death of pointed fangs, sharp claws, and venom. Jake wasn't about to let that happen. Therefore, the seventeen year old was hunched anxiously over the wheel, his little car panting slightly as the speed arrow crept around the dial, hovering around eighty. The Valentine residence wasn't far from the edge of the reservation, but as Jacob's home was closer to First Beach, he had to drive about fifteen minutes like a crazy person to get there. Of course, running was an option, but he was pretty sure that, if Delilah was in danger, a car would be his best bet on getting her out. Good thing the sputtery little Rabbit was trusty in its old age. Ugh, I'm a crazy person, Jacob thought to himself, I'm getting paranoid.

Thankfully, at that moment, he had to shove his giant foot down on the brake pedal to keep his car from driving directly into Dee's lawn. And it was a nice lawn, too...it would've been a shame if he didn't have those werewolf instincts. Smooth, Jake, he thought, taking a breath and turning into the Valentine driveway, long enough for five cars. The Quileute native glanced at the prim house, quite large for a home in La Push, and extremely neat. The grass on the lawn Jacob had nearly just torn up at eighty miles per hour looked like someone had gone around to each blade and trimmed with a pair of hair-cutting scissors and a ruler. He couldn't recall a time when he'd visited Delilah and her house hadn't looked perfect on the outside...on the inside, it was often another scene. After all...the Valentines were only human. Messes had to be made, and Dee wasn't OCD or anything. She seemed quite comfortable horsing around in his tiny house, where you had to stoop to not hit the ceiling (although, Jacob had to stoop in almost every house) and turn to the side to make your way down the yard-long hallway.

Sighing, Jake positioned his mirror so that he could see his face and pushed his black curls away from the russet skin of his face. Flashing a slightly narcissistic smile at himself, he killed the engine and opened the car door. Jacob stood and stretched, feeling the vertebrae in his back cracking slightly. Note to self: Stop hunching over the wheel so intensely. He stepped carefully over the precisely-cut grass, trying to step on as little of it as possible. It was too nice to ruin, and he knew that if he did mess any of it up, it would be fairly obvious. The crime scene would be filled with footprints fit to be those of a giant. And when someone said "giant" in La Push, there was only one guy that anyone really considered. Reaching the front door, finally, Jacob lifted his arm, elbow bent, and snatched the spare key off the top of the ornate door frame. He had known Dee long enough to know where her family kept the hide-a-key...seventeen years is a long time, after all. Unlocking the door, Jake set the key back where it had originally been settled and entered the Valentine residence.

The place was pretty silent; perhaps Delilah wasn't there? That would be pretty creepy...him just going to her house and unlocking her front door only to notice her absence after he was standing in the foyer. Jacob was not daunted; he refused to be. She'd asked him to come over after dinner, and this was after dinner. "Honey, I'm home!" The yell echoed in the large house, but, sure enough, he could now hear footsteps. Smiling, the seventeen year old stepped on the heel of each of his sneakers and removed them, kicking them to the side of the door. In his sock-feet, Jacob wandered into Dee's kitchen. Perhaps she had something good in the fridge.

It wasn't everyday that Delilah Valentine got to spend a bit of time by herself in her large home. Nowadays it seemed like Delilah's mother was always bringing one of her friends around the house to spend time with. Mrs. Valentine has been extremely lonely since her husband died, and she didn't like to be in the house alone. Lucas, Delilah's annoying sixteen year old brother, was either always on the couch watching tv, up in his bedroom watching tv and reading playboy, or out with some of his friends doing something stupid. As for Delilah, she was almost never home. She would stop by for dinner, and then leave again. She was constantly leaving the house to meet up with one of her friends somewhere. She was a very outgoing girl, and she barely spent any time in her bedroom. She doesn't even have a tv in there. All she needs her bedroom for is sleeping, and getting ready in the morning, seeing as her mother likes to spend a lot of time in there main bathroom, and Delilah doesn't like using the smaller one because there isn't enough room for her to "breath" in. Anyway, she doesn't like staying in the house. It brings back to many memories of her father, and the last thing she needs is to get more upset about her father passing..

Tonight was a bit different though. Instead of going out, Delilah was going to spend a bit of time inside her house. Her mother had decided to go away for the weekend. Delilah gave her a free pass to a casino in California for the weekend with some of her closet girl friends, and she had decided to take this weekend and go. Delilah knew that her mother was very lonely, and needed some time to be with her friends. She had never really gotten over her husbands death and is still madly in love with him. Thankfully, Lucas had decided to crash at one of his friends house, because his friends parents had gone with Mrs. Valentine, and they were planning to have a party. Delilah had the entire house to herself all weekend, and she was happy about that to. She would have some friends over and be able to relax without her brother, for once. Of course she loves her brother very much, but he was your typical teenage boy: always getting into trouble, drinking, partying, and hormone raged. One time, Delilah walked in on him and another girl having sex upstairs. Delilah was horrified that Lucas would do something like that with there mother home, but she has learned since then. Besides, Lucas has resorted to paying off Delilah with hundred dollar bills to get her to be quiet and not say anything to there mother. Of course Delilah would never even dare to tell her mother, especially with her mother the way she is now a days, always upset, but making her brother think she will and getting paid to do it is fun to.

Delilah had rushed home tonight to have dinner with her mother, before she left. Lucas had already left for his friends house, and it was just Mrs. Valentine and Delilah. Delilah loved spending time with her mother, because she knows it means so much to her. So, she spent a quiet dinner in with her, and then waved her goodbye as she left. Looking at the clock, Delilah sighed, seeing as it was only 6:30. She had asked Jacob to come over after dinner, and Jacob knew that dinner usually ends at 7 in her house, but seeing as Mrs. Valentine had to leave sooner, it had ended early. Delilah got up from the table and proceeded to clean the table off and wash all of the dishes. She turned the radio on as she did so, and began dancing around her kitchen, having a bit of fun. She finished all the dishes and then looked at the clock: Damn, it's only 6:45! Jacob won't be here for another fifteen minutes! Delilah debated what she could do in that time, and decided that she would get changed. She wanted to look good for Jacob. He was very important to her. After all, they had shared that kiss in the woods. Delilah wondered what was going to happen with that. Seeing as all this drama began happening, Delilah didn't get a chance to talk to Jacob about whether or not they were going to date. She smiled. She would have the time to do it tonight, now wouldn't she?

Delilah cleaned up the counter, and then hurried upstairs to get changed. She threw off all her clothes and ran to the bathroom to put them in the hamper. She ran back to her room, half-naked mind you, and then went over to her dresser and grabbed her favorite pair of black skinny jeans. She slipped them on her lean body, and then grabbed her favorite white tee-shirt with "boys like girls" written on it, and random colors of blue, green and black. She let her hair flow down her shoulders, wavy and naturally thick. She would have put it up, but it was looking very nice today. She took off her socks, and looked over in the mirror. Do I look hott? She thought to herself. She wanted to make sure she looked hot for Jacob. She always wanted to impress him. Before she knew it, she was putting make up on and fixing her hair a bit. Suddenly, she heard someone walking in the door. At first she was afarid that it was Lucas and some of his friends, deciding to bring the party over to her house, but she sighed when she heard one persons footsteps. It had to be Jacob. A smile flashed across her face as she heard his voice rang through the house. She loved that he just walked in. She has known him all her life, and walking into each others houses was something they always did. They were particulaly family after all. Well not exactly family, but best friends.

Grabbing her cell phone and pushing it into her pocket, and grabbing her favorite black hoodie and throwing it on, Delilah lef her bedroom and proceeded down stairs. As she suspected, Jacob was already in the kitchen looking for some food. Delilah laughed and leaned on the door frame of the kitchen. "Aww you just missed dinner honey. I made pasta and chicken for you and our children." Delilah said, playing along with what he said earlier Honey I'm home!. Delilah laughed again and then walked right over to him and embraced him into a huge hug. "Good thing your here! I hate being home alone!" She said, pulling back from the hug and leaning her arms on the table behind her. "I hope you are prepared to sleep over because I am not falling asleep in this empty house alone!" Delilah said with a playful smile. She loved having Jacob over. Not only was he one of the best friends a girl could have, but he was extremely hot, and Delilah was falling more and more in love with him everyday...

My ambition and every intention is to go where I shouldn't go
Pleasing to my eyes through a wretched reply
    It's soothing to my soul

There wasn’t a huge amount of food in the fridge, but Jacob grabbed a carrot and shoved the tip into his mouth, not bothering to wash it. He was proud to be called an animal. A smile broke out all through Jake’s face as his eyes caught those of Delilah, who was leaning against the door frame. She looked radiant, as always, with her wild hair flowing around her blemish-free face, the planes of her cheekbones prominent. He wanted to kiss them, but decided not to, as she probably wouldn’t appreciate having half-chewed carrot slobbered onto her cheek. In any case, she was laughing. Jake loved her laugh. It was deep and full, not like ‘tinkling bells’ or particularly feminine in any way. He was simply attracted to everything about her. “Aw, you just missed dinner, honey,” she said, playing along. “I made pasta and chicken for you and our children.” This girl is driving me crazy, Jacob thought, grinning back at her. He barely had a chance to take another bite of his carrot before she flung herself at him in a wild embrace. The hug was bear-like on her part, and he tackled her right back.

“Missed you, Dee,” Jake finally said, swallowing. He stroked her hair with the hand that was not holding the stump of the carrot that was left, and kissed the top of her head protectively. I think I’m going crazy. I overreact so much these days. Jacob was distracted from his thoughts momentarily by the sound of Delilah’s voice once more; it was like honey. Rich and beautiful and sweet and natural. Dee never tried to be anything she wasn’t. “Good thing you’re here! I hate being home alone!” He was disappointed when she pulled back from the hug, but he didn’t object. After all, he got to see her pretty face again. Dee leaned her arms on the table behind her, her posture very relaxed. You don’t realize what you do to me, Jake thought hungrily, eyeing the girl in her subtle makeup and black sweatshirt. She was relaxed, yes, but she tried. She tried to impress him. Silly girl. You impress me any day.

“I hope you are prepared to sleep over,” Delilah said, almost in a teasing voice. Jacob couldn’t help but smile at this. “Because I am not falling asleep in this empty house alone!” It wasn’t abnormal for the two to have a ‘sleepover’. But mostly these things had occurred in the past, before Jacob had imprinted on Dee, before they shared that kiss in the woods. They had not slept in the same house for months before then. “Well, I’ll see what I can do. I’ve been on patrol these last few nights, so I dunno what sort of protection I would be able to supply you with,” Jake said, trying not to stick a double entendre into his words. He grinned, feeling suddenly very alive. Delilah did something to him, his nerves just let loose and he could say anything around her; he wanted, so badly, to tell her that he’d imprinted on her. It almost gave him physical pain to hide things from Dee, and he constantly felt the words sticking to the back of his throat. At the moment, he was dragging in air to let out all his secrets.

    He had to distract himself.

“What are you up to tonight? What are we doing?” Jake asked, letting all of his air run through these words. It was almost like a sigh, a yawn, as he spoke, but he also put a seed of excitement into his voice. “Sam told me that he would be going on patrol with Embry and Brody tonight, so I’m free to do whatever I want. I think I have tomorrow night off as well, cause Leah is going out, so I think I can stay out late. I mean, if you want to hang out all night.” That sounded weird the way I said it, Jake thought, feeling a little silly for just babbling to Dee. But if he knew her, he knew that she’d probably take it with a laugh.

Delilah loved spending time with Jacob. He was unlike any guy she had ever met. He was differnet. He understood her like no one else did. They always had amazing times together. He was her best friend, and nothing would ever change that. Lately though, before Delilah found out about all the vampires stuff, everything had been a bit different. Delilah had noticed that Jacob had been spending a lot of time with that girl.. what was her name again? Oh, Isabella Swan. Jacob had grown very fond of her, and even said she loved her. Delilah grew very jealous of Isabella, but they were over, right? I mean, he had kissed Delilah out in the woods that day, right? He liked her now, not Isabella? Delilah wasn't to sure. After all, it wasn't like he really asked her out or anything. Maybe Delilah was just being paranoid because she really likes Jacob. Maybe, but she knew she ahd to talk to Jacob about it. They really needed to talk things out before they went any further. Delilah really likes Jacob, and she wants to know if he feels the same way, or if she is just getting her hopes up for a let down. She hates being let down, and knowing sooner then later is always better right? Delilah was getting more and more nervous by the minute. She had to let it out soon before she exploded into a million pieces.

Delilah smiled at his last comment. Of course she wanted him to hang out all night! Delilah would be alone, and she really wanted to have Jacob with her. She really cared for Jacob, and she wouldn't mind spending the night with him. Of course, it wasn't dirty or anything. Innocent. Completly innocent. The worst that might happen is Delilah falling asleep on him, right? Like that would ever happen though. Delilah wasn't so sure how much Jacob really liked her. "Well if you want to hang out all night, the offer is out there. You know you can always stay over, and I'd really love the company." She said with a sweet smile. She was being very genuine about it. She didn't want him staying over if he felt uncomfortable or anything. By this time, he should know taht she isn't the type of girl to make a move or anything. She is the last thing from a slut. If he wanted to sleep in a different room, that was fine with her. She didn't care. As long as she got to spend time with her best friend. She hasn't been able to spend a lot of time with him in the heat of all the drama. Things have been tense, and now she can just hang out with him, talk and have fun with him. Just like old times, before there were vampires and werewolves, but not before the kiss. No, they still needed to talk about that.

Delilah moved into the living room and sat down on the couch, growing a bit nervous. She found herself playing with her fingers, and looking down. Was this the right moment to come out and say it? They needed to talk about it sooner or later, and Delilah would have rather got it over now, rather then later, so if he wnted to leave.. he could. Taking a deep breath, Delilah decided to go for it. "Um Jacob? Can I talk you about something?" She said in a low, sweet and polite voice. She took another deep breath. How could she say it? I really like you, do you like me? No, that seemed to straight forward. Are you and Isabella Swan dating? Do you love her? No, that sounded to nosiy. Delilah didn't know what she was going to do. With a sigh, she leaned her head back and laughed slightly. "I'm a bit nervous. Can you tell?" She said blushing a bit. She grabbed a pillow and put it infront of her face and took deep breaths into it. She has down this a few times before when she was nervous, but I am sure Jacobwould thing it was weird. After all, Delilah was a bit of a weird girl.

Delilah lowered the pillow and moved in her seat. "Um Jacob.. about the woods.. um.." She was stuttering a bit. Maybe it wasn't the right time to bring it up? No! You have to bring it up now! You don't want to go through the rest of the night thinking he has feelins for you to, and find out he doesn't! SHe thought to herself. Taking another deep breath and a low cough, she started again with a nervous laugh. "Sorry, something stuck in my throat. Anyway, well... back in the woods last week. You said you liked me. Well, I like you to Jacob.. a lot. So I was wondering if you meant that back there. That you like me. But more importantly.. I had to ask you about.. Isabella. You had strong feelings about her.. maybe you still do, but I have to know. You don't have to tell me, but I'm curious. Do you still like her? I mean... do you love her?" Delilah asked slowly. "I'm sorry if I'm being to straight forward Jake, but I.. really like you. And, that kiss was.. special. You make me feel so.. special whenever I am with you. So I have to know if its mutual. And, if you and Isabella.." Delilah lost eye contact, and looked to the ground, waiting for an answer. What she needed really badly right now is for Jacob to hold her, but she wasn't so sure it wasn't going to happen. She was praying to god that he didn't despise her for asking. She had a right to know, didn't she?

If you just stand beside me, I'll keep you in my life
Tell me how much you love me and I'll be just fine
    Don't be afraid of me

Jacob watched Delilah’s face closely. She was quite beautiful, but in an almost unconventional way; her features were wide, lips broad but thin, with a small, pointed nose and bluish eyes that always smiled, even when those rouged lips were frowning. Above those eyes were two long, thick eyebrows, much darker than her hair. Dee’s cheekbones were high and matched a strong jaw-line, and her frizzy hair was honey-colored and shone bronze in the sunlight. Her skin, clear for the most part with the pretty, outdoorsy freckles, glowed faintly with hints of a tan and pieces of a leftover burn. Even that made Jake smile. He loved Delilah’s skin, loved its human warmth and coolness. Her arms, thin but muscular, were sturdy in balancing the rest of her body against the table. Looking back to the girl’s face, he noticed flickers of worry crossing her smiling eyes, her unsmiling mouth. He watched her silence with a tiny flame of burning panic, the stove of his heart slowly rising in degrees. Her mouth smiled suddenly as well; she was looking at him, and he grinned back. Jacob couldn’t help it, even as he watched her try to cover up that sadness in her face. A bubble of speech was threatening to spill from his throat, and he tried to swallow past it, tried to breathe. He wanted to ask her what was on her mind, what she was thinking about. What made her so sad.

He watched her, more and more, barely hearing her sweet voice as she said, “well if you want to hang out all night, the offer is out there. You know you can always stay over, and I'd really love the company.” The smile was back, and Jake was beginning to wonder if he’d imagined her worry. He felt a bit like an idiot. Either I’m perceptive or delusional. I’m not sure which, though. He held back the grimace he felt coming on, and stuck his huge hands in the pockets of his jeans. Maybe she thinks I’m trying to make a move or something. Does she think I want to—? Aughhh…. Jake snapped to rapt attention as Dee suddenly kicked off from the counter she’d been leaning against and moved, willowlike, into the den. He followed her, wondering if she thought he was weird, and followed suit when she sat down on the sofa. Jacob frowned. Something was definitely on Delilah’s mind, something that was making her worry. He wondered at the suddenness of it all, and hoped it hadn’t been bothering her for long, whatever it was. He turned to her, sitting sideways on the couch, and peered down at her. “Um Jacob? Can I talk you about something?” He felt his spine erect itself, and he bit his tongue before replying, almost tasting blood. “Of course,” Jake said, eyebrows crumpled together on his broad forehead.

Delilah kept taking deep breaths. Jacob watched her, trying to be perceptive and not delusional. She surprised him when she laughed a little. “I'm a bit nervous. Can you tell?” His eyebrows relaxed a little, and Jake allowed a slight bend in his spine. “Yeah, I noticed!” he laughed, too. “You’re making me nervous. Now spit it out.” Dee grabbed a pillow, hiding her pink cheeks and took some more deep breaths. Jacob sat up straighter again, frowning a little bit more profoundly. Dammit, I’m not fucking perceptive enough. What the hell is wrong? It took a few moments, but Delilah finally dropped the pillow, shifting uncomfortably on the sofa. Jacob moved back slightly, trying to give her space. “Um Jacob…about the woods…um…” His face suddenly broke out into a relaxed grin. The memory was pleasant for him, and it made him nearly blush himself whenever he was on patrol and the rest of his pack could see into his thoughts. Although it was embarrassing (especially with the whistling from Quil and the gagging noises from Leah), he wouldn’t take back that moment for his life. That’s what this is all about? Jacob wanted to tell her, to reassure her how much he liked her, that he loved her (well, maybe he wouldn’t tell her that quite yet). But she seemed to not be finished. Coughing, Dee mumbled about her having something stuck in her throat, giggling a little more. He started to get nervous again. She didn’t sound that happy. Maybe she didn’t like him after all…

“Anyway, well…back in the woods last week. You said you liked me. Well, I like you to Jacob…a lot. So I was wondering if you meant that back there. That you like me. But more importantly…I had to ask you about.. Isabella.” Oh my God. What? ”You had strong feelings about her.. maybe you still do, but I have to know. You don't have to tell me, but I'm curious. Do you still like her? I mean…do you love her?” Jake had to resist putting his face into his hands. He wanted to crawl off the couch and lie on the hardwood floor and put all his energy into forgetting. The sweet tones of Delilah’s voice faded into something of a daydream as she apologized a little and then said, again, that she liked him. Jacob’s throat tightened; he felt as if he was going to cry. “…and, that kiss was…special. You make me feel so…special whenever I’m with you. So I have to know if it’s mutual. And, if you and Isabella…” Jacob looked away from her, and saw out of the corner of his eye that she had done the same.

“Dee…” he sounded hoarse to himself. Jake swallowed, but it didn’t feel like it had helped anything. “Delilah, honey. Bella isn’t anything to me anymore. She’s getting married, for christssake; to a fucking bloodsucker.” He looked at her, hoping she couldn’t sense the extra venom in his words. “She took advantage of our short friendship, and I fell for her, but I regret it all.” This was a small white lie on his part. He regretted most of his Bella-Jake adventures; they had been fun at the time, almost all of them, but now, looking back, he only felt miserable. “Dee, I’m over her. I’ve been able to even…” Shit. He hadn’t wanted to tell Delilah he’d been talking to Bella, but taking back the words now would only cause problems. “…we IMed the other night, and even though things are a bit rocky between us, we’re trying to end it all on as good a note as we can. But, Dee, that’s what’s happening. It’s ending. It’s gone. And you know what?” Here, a smile. “I have something else—someone else—to focus on. A girl that I think deserves better, but lov—likes me all the same.”

Jacob moved closer to Dee, putting one arm on the back of the couch, and bringing his other hand around to position itself at the base of her neck. He smiled crookedly, laughing softly. He gently rubbed the skin at Delilah’s collarbone with his large thumb, letting it smooth over the speckly brown freckles. “You’re that girl. I really like you, too.” The word love was being screamed in his ear from an unknown, wolf-related source, but Jake drowned it out. It’s too soon, it’s too soon, he hissed back in his thoughts, and the din lowered to a dull, underwater roar. Jake’s face dropped the smile as he leaned in. He lifted Dee’s chin slightly, the arm that had been around the back of the couch securing itself protectively around her waist. Once her chin was raised so that their…eyes were able to meet, that arm went around her as well, winding up her back. Slowly, Jacob pressed as sweet a kiss as he could to her cool—to him—lips, breathing out in relief once their skin touched. He had been waiting for it to happen again; he missed her mouth against his, and now it was happening. The din again rose in Jake’s mind, but it was a happiness about which he couldn’t even use the word ‘love’. It was a tune.

    He felt like whistling.

Looking back at all the stuff that had happened between Delilah and Jacob, it appeared that she had always liked him. He was the guy that had always been there for Delilah, especially when her father had died. Alexandra and Jacob were there for Delilah when she felt like she was the most alone. Jacob stayed in her bedroom that night, comforting her and letting her cry to sleep in his arms. Of course, back then, Jacob didn't appear to have any romantic feelings for Delilah at all, but still. He was unlike any other guy she had ever been with. She could have fun with him, and be herself, and she knew that she never had to worry about being judged. Jacob knew she was a crazy girl, buthe loved that about her. He knew that she always had the wildest and ideas in her head, and even let her enjoy them. Jacob was her best friend since they were in Kindergarden. They grew up together. They watched each other get there first girlfriends/boyfriends, and were there when the break up occured. Delilah started falling for Jacob around the time that Isabella and Jacob bean happening. Delilah didn't see much of Jacob during that period of time, and was quite jealous of Bella. She missed her Jacob very badly, and she felt like Isabella had stolen him away from her. I'm sure Isabella must feel the same way right now, with Delilah and Jacob nearly an item, but she had her own problems to deal with.

Looking at Jacob, she truly began to realize just how important to her , he was. Without him, things wouldn't be the same. Everything about him blew Delilah away. He was the perfect image of a human being; tall, dark and handsome, sweet, caring, fun, and outgoing. There is nothing much you can ask for with a guy like Jacob. He was everything Delilah ever dreamed about in a guy. He was her dream boy in almost every way. I say in almost every way, because Delilah isn't so sure just yet that he is going to chose Delilah over the numerous other girls that probably like him. without a doubt, Jacob is one of the most attractive boys in La Push, and she was pretty sure he was getting offers for dates and such all the time. Was Delilah different to him? She was hoping so. She would be heart broken if she found out that he liked someone else as well as her. Delilah really liked Jacob. Maybe even loved him. Was it to early to say such a thing? She hoped not. It scared her a bit. Falling in love with someone. But it was Jacob Black, and he would never hurt her. She has known him all her life, and she knows that he would never do that to any girl. For a boy, he is quite sensitive about the subject of love. She wondered if he had ever been in love before. Maybe he was feeling the same thing Delialh is feeling right now? Oh she hoped so.

Delilah listened to Jacob, staring into his gorgeous eyes. She loved the beauty about him. She snapped out of it when she heard that Isabella and Jacob were talking on i.m the other night. Naturally, a tinge of jealousy range through her, but it quickly passed. After all, whose house was he over right now? Isabella's, or Delilah's? Isabella is a really beautiful girl, but in her own way. Delilah has always admired that type of beauty in someone. Inner beauty has always been more important to Delilah. She listened to Jacob, following his every word as if she were tracing words on a page. Its over?, she thought to herself, a small smile covering her face as she thought these words again. Isabella and Jacob weren't anything simply. It was something big, and delilah knew that Jacob had once had strong feelings for her, but now they were over? She was so glad to hear that. She was terrfied that he would turn around and say that he was still very much in love with her, but liked delilah a little bit to, but not nearly enough to change his feelings for Isabella. Delilah had never been a jealous girl before, but I guess these things happen when you find yourself falling in love with the perfect guy.

“I have something else—someone else—to focus on. A girl that I think deserves better, but lov—likes me all the same.”

Delilah froze. A look of fear covered her face. was this it? The moment that Delilah finds out that Jacob is in love with another girl? She couldn't even bare the tension. Had he almost said love? He loved another girl. It nearly broke Delilah's heart and he hadn't even said a name yet. She started thinking of possible people it could be, and how she would never speak to them again. Yes, it was a tad bit childish, but Delilah really liked Jacob. He was more then just a crush. He was the one for her. She could feel it. She was terrfied this would happen. That she would fall madly in love with someone, think that they are the true one for her, and then find out that they ar ein love with someone else. She was beginning to regret telling jacob she liked him. She was now afraid that there friendship would be ruined, seeing as she would be so jealous of his new girlfriend and everything. I can't breath.. she thought to herself, her breath quickly pacing. she couldn't sit there anymore.

Suddenly, Delilah was shocked when he placed his arm on the back of the couch, and his hand on the collarbone of her neck. A smile quickly filled her now red colored cheeks, as his soft voice spoke gently “You’re that girl. I really like you, too.” Suddenly, that familar feeling of butterflies filled her heart. He liked her to! She was the girl! She was just so happy. She really liked Jacob. He made her feel special. Suddenly, she found herself being moved upwards, her chin at least, and met eyes with Jacob. Before she knew it, they were both leaning in, and there lips met. It was like a spark ignited inside of her. She never wanted it to end, as she put her arms around Jacob and locked lips with him. His lips were so smooth and so.. passionate. The kiss was unlike anything she could ever imagine. It was more then she ever even dreamed it could be. Just like that day in the forest, her eyes closed as she kissed him back. slowly, the two parted from each other gently, and leaned there foreheads on one another. "It was me?" she said sweetly and in a low voice. "I'm so glad Jake, I really want to be with you." She said, her cheeks still very much blushing. she loved this moment, and she never wanted it to end.

Delilah shifted a bit, turning her back and leaning on Jacob's broad chest, bring his arms around her. she closed her eyes and lifted her head up to lean on her shoulder. She turned her head and whispered to him. "I never want you to let me go. Promise you'll always protect me.' she said sweetly. She turned and kissed his cheek. god, she loved this boy.

My heart is torn just in knowing you’ll someday see the truth
From the lies when the clouds will rage and the storms will
Race in but you will be safe in my arms

Jacob leaned back, ever so slightly, so his mouth was centimeters away from Delilah’s. He breathed into her cool mouth, wondering momentarily if she thought he had bad breath; he internally thanked his father for suggesting vaguely that he should brush his teeth before leaving the house. Giving Dee a crooked smile, he looked at her, appreciating her beauty, inside and out. He loved her sweet smile, her teeth, her lips, and her skin; he wanted to touch her face, her arms, her hips, her stomach. He’d always liked her ankles. “It was me?” Dee asked, her voice low. She sounded astonished, as if she couldn’t believe that Jake would like her at all. He found it sort of cute, but at the same time a little sad. Why would you think that I wouldn’t like you? he wanted to ask…wanted to know, rather. “I’m so glad, Jake. I really want to be with you.” She’s so cute. She’s so cute. She’s all pink. She’s so cute. Jacob moved with Delilah as she shifted into a more comfortable position; she had turned her back to him, and was now resting her shoulder and head on his chest. He relaxed into the couch, eyelids fluttering closed as he wondered what the hell would happen if Mrs. Valentine came home right about now. Actually, she likes me enough so that it probably wouldn’t matter all that much.

Jacob’s arms twined around Dee and he rested his chin on the top of her head momentarily. Her hair was so soft. “I never want you to let me go.” Delilah said. She had turned again, to look at him. Her face, to Jacob, was flawless, in its own quirky little way. Her unique features measured up to her unique personality. He wondered why he’d never noticed her before he imprinted. It was so sudden, Jacob thought vaguely, but the words stuck in his mind. The whole imprinting process was still a mystery to him now, even though he was now just like Sam and Emily, just like Jared and Kim. He didn’t understand it, and he wondered if they did. Or perhaps it didn’t matter…maybe imprinting was just love. Pure, uncomplicated love. He couldn’t be sure, but that’s what it felt like. “Promise you'll always protect me,” Delilah said. Her voice was as low and charming as ever. He grinned down at her and felt his heart pound just a little faster as she leaned in close to kiss him sweetly on the cheek. “Well, I’ll see what I can do,”Jake replied, hugging her and tickling her a little. “You do know that I stay up all night for nights on end for you, right? Just so that you’re safe. I don’t know what I would do if any of those damn bloodsuckers got to you.”

Jacob gritted his teeth and unconsciously pulled Delilah a little closer to him. It was one of his greatest fears; Dee getting hurt or killed by one of those rogue vampires, or the ones that came in for the wedding. The supposedly ‘civilized’ ones. Even the Cullens, although he knew, in the back of his mind, that the Cullens probably wouldn’t bother with killing ‘just some girl’; they were as urbane as bloodsuckers came, however much Jake hated to admit it. I can’t think about this anymore. I don’t want to think about it anymore…oh. Wait. I have something to think about. “Hey…Dee? Jake asked slowly. He moved her gently so that he could look at her. “You know the dance that’s coming up? The one for school, that Forks and La Push are combining for.” he hesitated, freezing a little in thought. “Well, I was going to ask you to not go. It’s going to be really dangerous, because the Cullens and the Sangues are going to be there, and I’m pretty sure that you’re delicious.”
    Insert grin here.

“But—on second thought—maybe you should go. Because I’m going to be there, and the rest of the pack, too. We haven’t quite figured out how we’re getting in some of the older pack members, but it’s necessary. We can’t have anything bad happening at this damn school dance.” Jacob was rambling at this point, but it was a relevant ramble, in this case. “If you want, we could go together. I doubt I’d be able to treat you like a queen because I have to be on guard, but it would mean a lot to me.” He had been glancing around the room a little, but when he finished his mildly long oration, he looked back to the summery face of Delilah Valentine. And couldn’t help but smile again.

It was like a dream come true. Was it really happening? Was Jacob Black really infront of her, confessing that he had feelings for her? It felt like a dream to Delilah. She had always dreamed that Jacob would say that to her, and now he was. She didn't know if this was a dream or not. She was expecting to wake up any second and see her brother standing there laughing at her because she was drooling and saying Jacobs name. You see, something like that has already happened before to Delilah. She actually had to pay her brother not to say anything to anyone because it was so embarssing. She had a dream that Jacob was her husband and that they were married and stuff, and then it turned into a rather naughty dream, and her brother was there to watch the entire thing. Appartantly she was tossing and turning the entire time and saying Jacob's name. How embarssing is that? delilah hasn't told a soul about that. It's way to embarssing. She has no intentions to tell Jacob about that ever. I mean, would you tell anyone that? That is beyond embarssing. It's sucidial worthy in Delilah's opinion. SHe had never really been one to have the courage to admit she liked someone to anyone else. She was really shy about those types of things. She would rather stay just friends with them,. then cause problems and possibly lose them as a friend completly.

“Well, I’ll see what I can do,” Delilah laughed as he hugged her tighter and tickled her gently. she had always liked when He had his arms around her. It made her feel safe. It was her safe haven. “You do know that I stay up all night for nights on end for you, right? Just so that you’re safe. I don’t know what I would do if any of those damn bloodsuckers got to you.” Delilah couldn't help but grow a huge smile on her face when she heard this. Jacob would stay up all night to protect her? She had never known someone who cared about her so much. It made her feel so loved. So cared for. she hadn't had that feeling since her father was alive. Sure, her mother always loved her and always will love her, but not the way her father did. delilah and her father had a bond that no one was able to break. When he died, Delilah was crushed. SHe believed that no one would ever be able to take his place in her heart. For once in the amount of years since her father has been dead, she felt like that place was open for someone else as well. Someone that had always been there for her. Someone she could count on. Someone named Jacob Black. "Aww, you so sweet." She said, blushing a bit. She could tell he really cared for her. She felt the butterflies ingulf her stomach. She knew what that meant. She was falling in love. She was going into uncharted waters, and she wasn't afraid to put a blindfold on, as long as Jacob was there with her.

Delilah listened to every word he said, following his lips to the beat of his rhymatic voice. oh, how she adored his voice. It was sweet, caring, and filled with emotion. While he tried to hide it when he was with friends, Delilah could always hear his emotions in his voice. She knew him better then she knew anyone else, and Jacob agreed. He even said once that she knew him better then he knows himself, and she can answer any question is asked of him. Afterall, they were best friends for many many years. “If you want, we could go together. I doubt I’d be able to treat you like a queen because I have to be on guard, but it would mean a lot to me.” She smiled brightly, hearing his last sentence. She was growing a bit scared when he said that he was going to ask her not to go, but was glad that he asked to go together with her. She blushed slightly, bringing her finger to her chin, as if she were pondering the question. 'Hmm.. let me think" delilah said. Suddenly, she got up and went over into the kitchen, laughing slightly. She came back quickly and laughed. "No, sorry. I'm all booked up." she said, sticking her tongue out and laughing, standing infront of him. "just kidding! Unless you are a sucky dancer, because I'm gonna be dancing all night!" She said as she started dancing. Of course she was kidding, but she knew that Jacob would know that and take it as a yes. She was just excited. She was going with the boy of her dreams. what more could she ask for?

We're one mistake from being together
But let's not ask why it's not right
    You won't be seventeen forever
And we can get away with this tonight

“Hm, let me think,” Jacob blanched when Delilah got up, separating her body from his. It wasn’t that he’d gotten cocky; he just felt like he knew her. It wasn’t something that he’d expected, that she would stand and go into the other room. Jake sat up a little straighter, preparing himself to stand, but she was suddenly back in the kitchen doorway, her face framed by her sunny brown locks. He wasn’t too worried; she was laughing, after all. But lately Jacob had been known to just get nervous. “No, sorry. I’m all booked up,” Dee said lightly, sticking out her tongue. Her laughter was deep. Jacob smiled nervously. Even if he was being rejected, he couldn’t help liking it just a little, because Delilah was laughing. Her voice was so warm and farmiliar, a little bit dry and crackly but at the same time smoothed over with honey. The sultry deepness of it made Jake want to close his eyes and just listen. She walked over and stood in front of him, still with that comfortable chuckle. “Just kidding!” her voice sounded, and Jake felt as if he should jump up and spin her around in a false show of mild frustration. But as he looked at her, eyebrow quirked in that way it always did, she kept talking. “Unless you’re a sucky dancer, because I’m going to be dancing all night!”

Whatever sneaky, quick retort he had come up with the moment before had been lost in the depths of his mind, dissolved into what he was now seeing. Delilah’s body was moving. Her dance was smooth, a little idiosyncratic…very her. The smile on her face was one of a mixture between satisfaction and excitement. It was so like Dee to be so free, so happy. Jacob got up in one swift movement, his eyes still focused directly on the girl in front of him. The way she moved was just so enthralling to him, and he couldn’t say exactly why. Perhaps it was the way her elbows bent, the way her fingers flexed. The way her hips moved in her dark-wash skinny jeans kept Jake’s eyes fixated, to be sure, but that wasn’t it either…her bare arms, tanned and freckled, rose above her head and down again, and he followed them. The delicate curve of Delilah’s neck was captivating, the way her loose hair swung about her face, a few flyaways curling against her dimpled cheeks. Against his more civilized mind, Jake allowed his warm brown eyes to rake over Dee’s small breasts, hidden beneath a too-tight white graphic tee. He paid no attention to the lettering. Glancing once more at her face, Jake admired the small shell of her ear, the tops slightly sunburned, the lobes pierced with small, very Dee-like earrings. All of it. I think it’s all of it put together. Everything that makes this girl who she is. Every single part of her. I love who she is.

Almost without his mind consenting, Jacob moved towards Dee, slightly too close for normal familiarity. A slightly wolfish grin took over his sun-browned face, and he leaned down slightly, his long, wiry, muscled arms encircling Delilah’s waist, pushing the back of her shirt up less that an inch to touch his fingertips to her warm back. He moved to the imaginary beat that she had been moving to, and kissed her temple. “I actually think myself of quite an accomplished dancer, if you don’t mind the height,” he murmured in that beautiful ear, her right. His large hands moved up her back a little to rest at the small of it, touching her spine lightly and pressing at the surrounding muscles. Jake grinned again, happier that he’d been in a long time. “Maybe we could do with a little music now, honey,” he said, letting her go a little reluctantly. As his hands moved away from her back, he yearned to touch her again, but he forced himself to cross the room quickly to the CD player he knew was in the corner, next to the Valentine’s television set. He pressed the ON button and quickly scanned the titles of the CDs stacked in a messy pile on top of the player. He chose one that he was pretty sure was one of Delilah’s favorites, something that he wasn’t particularly fond of but really didn’t care either way. It was something to move to.

The CD, simply labeled with the band’s name in colorful, attention grabbing, near-neon colors, screamed ‘Metro Station’ in caps. On a black background, the lettering looked particularly neon. Jacob looked back to Delilah, still standing in the middle of the room, and grinned. He popped the CD out of its case and let it clatter into place in the new-looking boom box. He had barely pressed PLAY when the music, electronic and quick-paced, started blasting from the twin speakers. Turning up the volume until it almost hurt, Jake swept back toward Dee and grabbed her around the waist, swinging her around before placing her back on the ground. The beat was slightly too poppy for Jacob’s tastes, but he knew Delilah probably enjoyed the music (otherwise why would she own the CD), and it was dance music. It was fun music. So who cared? They were having a good time. Oddly, the first track’s name (he recalled from the quick glance he’d taken at the back of the CD case) was ‘Seventeen Forever’. He recalled with a small grimace that he had yet to turn seventeen at all. Delilah, on the other hand, was older than him. What the hell is up with my preference for older women? Jake thought. Based on my past experiences, it seems mildly masochistic. Though he couldn’t doubt his happiness now.

The lyrics of the song were sung by a man that sounded somewhat like a girl.

You are young and so am I
    And this is wrong
But who am I to judge?
You feel like heaven when we touch
I guess for me this is enough

Jacob just held onto Dee and let the music take him away.

Delilah loved the way Jacob looked, and everything about him. He had an air of mystery to him, and yet an air of familarity and security. She felt safe with him, unlike she had ever felt with anyone else before. Whenever she was by his side, she knew that no one could touch her. She had this feeling way before she even knew that Jacob was a werewolf. She had always felt this way about him. He was unlike anyone she had ever met. Everything about him, Delilah loved. He was gentle, and yet funny and sarcastic. He was an individual, and never followed the crowd. He was a quileute, and for some reason that attracted her even more to him. He was loving, which was the most important thing to Delilah. He had always been there for her, which was unlike a lot of people in her life. She had never been able to depend on just one person, besides her father and her bestest friend in the entire world, Alex, and then Jacob came along. They had been best friends for the longest time, and she had fallen for him years ago. And now, he was with her, in her living room, about to dance with her, and hold her in his strong and big arms. She felt like she was invincible.

“I actually think myself of quite an accomplished dancer, if you don’t mind the height,”

Shivers were sent up her spine as he whispered in her ear, and touched her at the same time. With every touch, she fell more in love with the boy. He wasn't like anyone she had ever met, and the feeling he gave her was simply love. She wanted so badly to tell him that she was falling in love with him, but it was way to early. Besides, she was terrfied it wouldn't last long. She'd be afraid to fall in love with him, and have him become ripped away from her. She had always had that fear, ever since her father died. She didn't want to lose anyone else, and sometimes she actually fears getting close to people, because she hates when it ends. Death is something that freaks Delilah out more then anything. Jacob is involved with so much stuff being a werewolf, and every day she becomes more and more scared that something may happen to him and she'll lose him forever. She would never be able to handle that. First her father, then the one boy that had ever cared for her, and she only loved, ripped right from underneath her. it would be unbareable. She'd want to die if that happened.

“Maybe we could do with a little music now, honey,”

Delilah smiled as he let go of her gently to put music on. She laughed happily has he swung her around, before placing her back on the ground and dancing with her. She began dancing to the pop music, and smiling the entire time, looking back up at Jacob. She smiled. They danced until the song was done, and then Delilah stopped, as a song she didn't like came on. "This song is horrible.. but on the other hand.. you're a pretty good dancer." She said with a wink, placing a soft kiss on his lips, and then parting from him, walking toward the kitchen which had a window into the liviing room. She stood at the window, standing on the kitchen side and looked out toward Jacob. "we should have dessert. What do you say to.. ice cream.. on the roof?" She said with a wink. She grabbed the ice cream and walked back into the living room with just the containers and the spoons, and walked towards the back door. "I know a perfect way of getting onto the roof. If you want to. Or are you to scared?" She said with a playful grin, waiting for a response.

Your love is lifting me higher
Than I’ve ever been lifted before
Keep it up, quench my desire
And I’ll be at your side forever more

The smile on Delilah’s face was hard to miss. It took up the entirety of her mouth, stretching across her just-barely-dimpled cheeks, her smooth skin uncreased between her eyes, her face turned up to look at him, so close. The song lasted for only a couple of minutes, but it was worth it. The minutes were carefree, relaxing, happy. When the song drew to a close, Delilah stopped dancing, and Jake looked down at her, slightly surprised. She still had that smile on her face. “This song is horrible,” she said lightly, about the one that had just begun to play, following ‘Seventeen Forever’. He had no idea what it was called, but he didn’t particularly want to step away from the girl standing before him. “…but on the other hand, you’re a pretty good dancer,” Dee said, winking and stretching to kiss him on the lips. He helped her a little. The quickness of it left Jacob with an unquenched desire for more, but he said nothing as he watched her separate herself from him and make her way toward the kitchen. Her retreating figure was delicate and swaying, as a teenage girl’s body should be. He wondered why he’d never particularly noticed the way any other girl moved (Bella was winceable in her awkwardness, but that was besides the point).

Delilah stood, approximately fifteen feet from him, on the other side of the wall separating the den and the kitchen, and popped into view in the square hole in the wall that was something of an (unnecessary) window. Yet she was so cute and small, standing there. Jake grinned. “We should have dessert,” Dee mused, and immediately Jacob was at attention. She sure knew how to win a guy over. What normal person would ever say no to sweets? Jacob was at the living room side of the window in a moment, all smiles, and leaned his wiry, muscular forearms on the thick plaster sil. He was practically wagging his tail. “What do you say to ice cream…on the roof?” Another wink, and Delilah was off again, toward the refrigerator. Jake resisted the urge to climb through the annoying window and simply be closer to her, but she already had the large container out of the fridge and in her arms, and two spoons as well—oh, what a lovely sight, a beautiful woman bearing a quart of ice cream!—and was walking toward the back door. “Dee! This is why you’re so great. You know me too well,” Jacob said, sighing with a smile and following the girl.

“I know a perfect way of getting onto the roof,” she said as Jake reached her. He opened the back door. “If you want to. Or are you too scared?” He almost burst out laughing. The idea of getting on the roof to eat simply sounded like heaven. And with Delilah? Heaven three—or four—times over! “I think I can handle it,” he choked out, still trying to keep himself from falling into a fit of giggles. Dee made him feel young again. Oh, jeez, I sound like an old man; why the hell am I so ridiculously middle-aged? He recalled the fond memory of his short time with Bella, when Edward was ‘away’, how they had created different ages for themselves. How Bella had ended up at 23, and Jake had ended up in his forties. Or was it fifties? I can’t remember. It’s probably best I can’t remember. Jacob looked at Delilah, and grinned. “Are you scared? We could eat at this nice, safe kitchen table, if you want,” he teased, gesturing toward it. He didn’t wait for a response, however. He knew what she would say. “No, you wouldn’t be scared. You want to get me up there. Well, let’s go!” Jake grabbed Dee’s free hand, trying not to upset the carton of ice cream, and tugged her gently out the door into the night. The sun had gone almost all the way down at this point; he wondered how long it had been since he’d arrived. Not that he had to be anywhere in particular; it wasn’t his night to patrol, thank God.

“You know,” Jacob said thoughtfully, as he swung Dee’s arm with his own. They were beginning to circle around the house; Jake was letting her lead. He had no idea how the hell she had figured out how to get on top of the house from outside; the Valentine residence was, without question, one of the largest homes Jacob had ever been in. He didn’t even want to ask why Delilah had bothered finding a way onto the roof, or who she’d brought up there in the past. “I don’t think that ice cream is going to last us very long. Is it full?” Jake grinned down at the girl in the dark, chuckling a little. “Even if it is. Five minutes, tops, and it’ll be gone. But—” he stopped walking for a second, halting Delilah as well. The grip on her hand was firm; not tight enough, of course, to hurt her, or give her any discomfort. It was just tight enough to let her know that he never wanted to let go. “I kinda like you. So maybe I’ll take my time, and you can have some.” Jake laughed again, brought her hand up slowly, and kissed her knuckles. This girl. I would eat slowly for her. She must know she’s special.

Delilah laughed slightly. She had never been exactly a normal person. She was constantly coming up with cool and awesome things to do. She was very odd in her own way. She was very adventurous, and a risk taker. I guess that makes Delilah and Jacob perfect for each other? After all, danger is Jacob's last name. Delilah is a bit niave to the real danger of the world, but she knows how dangerous it is to get herself on the roof, and not just not when she was with Jacob, but the first time she did it by herself. Afterall, she needed some time by herself. She had figured it out when her father died and she wanted to be alone. She needed a way to escape the world, and her only way out was to go outside, where no one would get her, and star up at the beautiful sky up above. The night sky was much more beautiful then the day sky, in Delilah's opinion. Delilah laughed as he put his arm around her, letting her lead the way. They made there way around the house and she smiled, looking up at Jacob. "I have done this loads of times. It's completly safe." She said with a small laugh. "Besides, your a werewolf. I don't think you'd let me fall." She said with a wink. She had something important to tell him on the roof anyway. Possibly those three magic words? Who knows!

“I kinda like you. So maybe I’ll take my time, and you can have some.”

Delilah laughed again and blushed slightly. "Awwww, your so sweet Jacob!" She said, as he kissed her knuckles. She leaned up on her tippy toes and kissed him lightly, knowing that it would leave him wanting more. She had a big surprise waiting for him on the roof. I mean, what is more romantic then sitting in your lovers arms, under the stars, and kissing them? It couldn't get more romantic then that. Besides, she wasn't very concerned with the ice cream anymore. She just wanted to be with Jacob. "Anyone ever told you that your the most amazing boy ever?" She asked, quickly stepping up on the flower box and climbing up the side of the house. She reached the top and pushed herself up and looked down to Jacob. "It's not as hard as it looks." She said with a laugh, knowing it would be easy for him. She was just playing. She contiuned to move higher on the roof, climbing up one more tower until she was two stories up, to the highest point of the roof. She had a bit trouble seeing where she was going, but she was used to it. The first time she came up here she brought herself a flash night, and now she knows her way around much better and doesn't even need one.

Delilah sat down, putting the ice cream down next to her. She leaned on her back arms, and looked up at the sky. "Isn't it beautiful.." She said in a soft sigh. She leaned her head on Jacob's chest, who was now sitting next to her. "You know.. I used to come out here when my dad died. I always imagined that I could talk to him.. up there in the sky. He really loved star gazing.." She said in a dream like state. She laughed a bit. "He always told me.. 'whenever you need me, look to the stars'. Sometimes i debate whether or not he knew he was going to die.. he seemed so.. ready.." She said. Without noticing it, a tear fell down her beautiful face. She hated doing in front of Jacob, butknew he wouldn't mind. He was used to it by now.

occ; sorry is taking me long to reply. ill get better at this. xD

There’s a tear in the fabric of your favorite dress and I’m sneaking glances
I’m looking for the pattern in static, they start to make sense the longer I’m at it
Oh, instincts are misleading; you shouldn’t think what you’re feeling
They don’t tell you what you know you should want

A very natural, easy smile came over Jacob’s face as Delilah giggled some more, and he quirked his eyebrows slightly as she told him he was sweet. “Well, I don’t know about that,” he snorted, a few memories of his not-so-sweet times flashing through his mind. Jake had never been called sweet in his life by anyone other that Dee, and he thought that perhaps she was biased. When they were small, he had never paid enough attention to her to really know her as well as he could’ve, even though he had a sneaking suspicion, even then, that she really liked him. Throughout the time when Jacob was spending most of his free hours with Bella, not a single thought of Delilah had flashed through his mind, and looking back, he felt a little bit guilty about it. Not that he’d had any reason to really think about her then, as he had never looked her way before (in that sense, anyway) until recently. Now, he couldn’t look away. Other girls meant nothing to him; he only saw her and her alone. Dee was a perfect being, in Jacob’s mind, even though he knew that she had her flaws. She needed chap stick more than most people, her head was a little small. Her hair was frizzy, and her eyebrows were thick. Her breasts were small and she had no real curves to speak of. But through all this, he was in love. In love by way of imprinting. They were perfect for each other.

“Anyone ever told you that you’re the most amazing boy ever?” Delilah asked playfully, her tone conversational. Jake shook his head and watched her petite figure as she stepped up on the flower box, agilely climbing up the outside wall of the house. “Nope,” he admitted lightly, “Never once. Except…you’ve probably told it to me about ten thousand times, and I’ve just never listened.” Jacob knew he was pushing it with the boasting, but he couldn’t help taking advantage, just a little bit, of how much Dee liked him. It felt good to be loved so much, to be the center of attention in one person’s eyes all of the time. As Delilah scrambled onto the roof, Jake instinctively put out his arms under her to prevent her from falling to her death. “It’s not as hard as it looks,” she called down to him with a laugh, and she edged higher. It was making Jacob just a little bit tense, but he quickly vaulted himself up until he could grab the edge of the roof, praying that his weight wouldn’t snap off the shingles, and stepped against the drainpipe for support. Quite easily, he pulled himself onto the roof, and followed Delilah as she climbed higher and higher. The roof on the house of the Valentine residence was shockingly complex; it had several different levels, and it looked like Dee was having a grand old time getting up to the uppermost crown, the piece that was covering the crawlspace attic.

Jacob wondered how the hell she could see where she was going; the area around the house was pitch back due to the lack of lampposts mixed with the overgrown shrubbery blockading any sort of illumination. The only light source Jake could tell was the dim brightness coming weakly from the kitchen and living room windows, several stories down. He stared after Delilah and followed nimbly in a wolf-like crouch, practically running up to where she was now sitting, next to the moon and the stars and the clouds that constantly were crowded over this part of Washington State. “Isn’t it beautiful,” she sighed, when he sat down next to her. Dee had put the ice cream down between their thighs and Jake eyed it as she leaned her head back on his chest, stretching her arms out behind her. “You know…I used to come out here, when my dad died.” Shit, he thought, tearing his eyes away from the frozen deliciousness and focusing instead on the girl next to him, who’s voice was now quivering slightly. She sounded as if she were in a dream; her voice was soft and her vowels drawn out, like her tongue was permanently curled. He hoped to God that Delilah wouldn’t start crying. He was a good guy, he liked to think, but tears were something that no man liked to see, especially on the face of a girl that they loved. “I always imagined that I could talk to him, up there in the sky. He really loved stargazing…” Jacob put his hand on her waist, his huge hand covering the entire space between the bottom of Dee’s ribcage and her hipbone, and he was a little bit shocked when she laughed again.

“He always told me…‘whenever you need me, look to the stars’. Sometimes I debate whether or not he knew he was going to die. He seemed so…ready.” The dreamy way Delilah spoke snapped a little bit as her voice cracked, and Jake tensed. He pulled away from her slightly to look her in the eye and saw with a sinking heart that she was, indeed, crying. Just a little. Sighing, Jake hugged her crushingly, taking the spoons gently from her hand and popping the lid on the ice cream. “Dee, honey. Your dad…he loved you! If I were him, I would be so proud of you. You’re beautiful, and happy…you laugh a lot, and you’re strong. I bet he’s up there right now, looking down on us and watching you live this life.” Jacob kissed the top of her cheekbone, near her eye, and then kissed the salty tear away before it could roll down Delilah’s russet cheek. “You have a great life. You live in a big house, you have lots of friends…you have me. And I’ll always be here.” He loosened his hold a little to make sure he wasn’t killing her, and dug one of the spoons into the container, scooping out a hulking bite of the sweet dessert. “Obviously, I’ll never take the place of your dad. That would be creepy, and completely wrong, because no one can ever take the place of a parent when they’re gone. My mom’s dead, has been for years. Sure, I miss her, but life goes on, and you’re alive, and I’m alive, and we have ice cream to eat up here on this gigantic and freakishly high up roof.” Here, a laugh. Jake raised the spoon up to Dee’s mouth.

“Now eat, before it gets warm. The containerful is melting as we speak, because it’s too close to my leg.”

the memories were flooding back, and yet delilah was keeping it calm. she didn't want to start imediently crying infront of jacob, someone that she had fallen completly in love with. jacob was so special to her. maybe that was why she had begun crying infront of him? she was so comfortable with him, that it seemed so easy. she knew that jacob wouldn't judge her and get up and walkaway, just because she was crying. most guys hate when a girl cries. one time, delilah was in school a few days after her father died, and she started tearing because soemthing reminded her of him, and a guy made fun of her. how cruel is that? he hated that she began crying, that he ended up getting up from the table and walking away, making a rude remark to delilah that didn't make her feel any better. everyone was telling her that she should just get over it. her father was dead and that was all she could do. that's easier to say then you think. delilah has always been a bit sensitive with things like that. she can't get over something so fast like that. it nearly brought delilah's workd to pieces. she didn't know if she would ever be able to get over something like that so fully. she knew that ife would go on, but when would she be able to stop thining about her father without crying a bit inside? she had never really gotten closer about what happened. she still felt like she hadn't said goodbye. she wished that her father was alive for just a minute, so she could offically say goodbye to him, and tell him she loved him. but that wasn't going to happen, was it?

delilah snapped out of her fantasy when jacob began talking again. she looked over at him, and smiled as he wrapped his warm and strong arms around her. some of her friends had always said he had extremely large arms, for a boy, but delilah knew better then that. after all, he was a werewolf, right? and besides, despite is little flaws, delilah thought he was perfect. sure, he was a bit awkward at times, and his arms were a tad bit hairy, but she loved that about him. she always used to make jokes in the winter that he was her personal snow coat. he used to laugh and brush it off. delilah loved moments like that. delilah knew she was a bit odd herself at times, and she knew that jacob just dealt with them in the best way possible, by brushing them off and pretending they didn't happen. delilah and alex have always been that way, loud and crazy at times. jacob was the only guy who had stayed there with delilah, being one of th ebest friends a girl can ask for, and still loving her despite her crazy and wild moments. some people have said tht delilah is hard to handle at times. delilah doesn't see what they mean by that, but she was sure jacob knew. jacob and alex knew delilah better then she knew herself sometimes. they had seen the true side of her, especially jacob. he was the first person delilah had gone to after her fathers death. she wouldn't open up to anyone besides jacob back then. not even alex was able to crack her. but jacob came in and stole her heart. she knew she had always been in lvoe with him. it was fate.

delilah looked into his eyes, and couldn't help but smile, as his soft and angelic voice came out of his smooth and soft lips. the lips that she had just kissed not even minutes earlier. it wasn't a secret that delilah was madly in love with his lips. she constantly wanted to kiss them again and feel them on her smaller, and less smooth lips. “Dee, honey. Your dad…he loved you! If I were him, I would be so proud of you. You’re beautiful, and happy…you laugh a lot, and you’re strong. I bet he’s up there right now, looking down on us and watching you live this life.” delilah couldn't help but smile as he kissed away her tears. naturally, she lifted her head up and planted a small kiss on his lips. sort of a 'thanks for dealing with me' type of kiss. she knew that he would get the picture. she let the tears disappear and listened to jacob. she knew that he was a lot wiser then she was, and he knew alot more about the world then delilah did. jacob had always been a bit more grown up then delilah was, especially with all this werewolf drama going on. jacob hadn't had a lot of time to be a kid, especially with his mother dead, and him having to live up to his fathers expectations. his father was a very difficult man to handle, and delilah knew that better then anyone. jacob had it rough, and he was still there for delilah, helping her out. she was so greatful for that.

delilah was so in love with this boy. everytime he spoke, it was as if her heart started fluttering, which she was so sure it did. he spoke again, and butterflies were sent up her chest once again. You have a great life. You live in a big house, you have lots of friends…you have me. And I’ll always be here.” delilah smiled so brightly on that last part. "i know i can always count on you jacob !"[b] she said with a smile, hugging him a bit tigher after he said that, trying to make herself look strong. obviosuly, it didn't work so much and she ended up letting go and breathing a bit heavily. she laughed slightly. [b]"i guess we all can't be as strong as mr. werewolf over here," she said with a smirk, sticking out her tongue and laughing again. she was such a goofball sometimes. “Obviously, I’ll never take the place of your dad. That would be creepy, and completely wrong, because no one can ever take the place of a parent when they’re gone. My mom’s dead, has been for years. Sure, I miss her, but life goes on, and you’re alive, and I’m alive, and we have ice cream to eat up here on this gigantic and freakishly high up roof.” delilah listened and smile. "jacob, you don't have to take the place of my father.. you know why? you already own such a big place in my heart. just like my father, no one can take the place in my heart that you have filled up with your caring nature, and your loving friendship to me. you make me feel so special. and i love that about you jacob ! i love you." she said, the last part slipping out. she covered her mouth and looked out to the sky. did she really say that?!?! she was afraid it would be to soon. i mean.. were they even dating? he hadn't offically asked her to be his girlfriend, had she?

delilah had grown nervous. she didn't want jacob to be like LOVE?!?! I DONT LOVE TO?!? so she decided to change the subject quickly, as her face grew red. she meant what she said. she did love him, but maybe he would just think she meant as a friend? she was hoping so. she was almost 100 percent sure that he didn't love her back. she wasn't that lucky. “Now eat, before it gets warm. The containerful is melting as we speak, because it’s too close to my leg.” delilah laughed, grabbing her own spoon and digging into the ice cream, putting some in her mouth. "this is good ice cream!" she said with a laugh. she kenw it wouldn't last long. she knew thye would both be done with the ice cream in five minutes, but she iddn't care, as long as she was with jacob. she leaned her head on his shoulder and sighed happily. she loved life at the moment. she felt like the luckiest girl in the world, and in her eyees, she really was.
