Percent Complete: %10
Cost So Far: $21.52
Start Date: February 20, 2012
Deadline: No set date, but hopefully by September for a local comic convention

((Nooo, I /totally/ didn't steal MiraiBaby's layout for Lockdown's update post. OTL))

Yes, that's right, I'm going to do Transformers: Prime Ratchet! :) I've always loved Ratchet in every incarnation and I /especially/ love the good doctor in TFP!

I've learned a lot since my last costume (which, I say again, was atrocious!) and I'm going to be posting pictures often of updates this time so you guys can yell at me to keep on track. ;P

I'll be doing Ratchet using craft foamies and foamcore (maybe even some upholstery foam for the bigger parts?) and covering it in 4-way stretch fabric. I did consider painting, but I just love the uniform look of the fabric covered 'former costumes and I decided to try something new.

CHEST/BACK

Attempt 1

ATTEMPT #1: Ehh.
Well, I'm getting there. This has actually already been taken apart already before I post this and I've come up with a new chest plan that will look much better. Buuuut I just wanted to post this to show that I'm actually doing something on this instead of leaving you guys hanging. These paper mock ups are really a lot of experimenting for me as well... So, here you have it! My pathetic first attempt. Attempt number two will be done soon and that will fix a lot of problems I've discovered and I'll fix the boxy, weird femme-like shape and make me look more like a fat, old, crotchety medic. >:) Yay.
(like, seriously, what was I thinking with that chestplate?! *facepalm*)
Ideas? Thoughts? DO TELL!

AGHHHH SO MUCH BETTER.
At least for me... I still have some editing to do, and proper pictures to take... But it looks better than last time. :)

Update #1: Ffffff.... Well, here's my first paper mock up of the arms... And when i was making it, I had a severe brain fart on the wheel by the elbow. And it looks funky cuz it doesn't have a little wrist thingy to keep it on my arm. Argh...
(crappily color coded, lol... Looks like it was done by a 2 year old XD)
Well, here it is! The first step of a long journey that is TFP Ratch!
Critique! Thoughts! I welcome it all!

NICE. :D

Also: I approve of the layout-thieving.

Holy Zombie Jesus, if you make this I will be your slave for life. Seriously, if you need ANYTHING to help get this costume done just let me know and I will do whatever I can. Please take into consideration that anything I ship will be coming from an Air Force base in Hawaii and that in itself is a bit of a bitch. Please oh please make this cosplay!

UPDATE IN ARMS!

(How do ya do that nifty link thing to a specific post anyway...?)

MiraiBaby - February 24, 2012 04:39 AM (GMT)
That looks good! :D The images are a little big, though ... (just for me personally -- I'm not a fan of stretched screens lol)

If you wanna make linked posts, at the top of the specific post you want to be linked, click on the bold/underlined Posted:. It should pop up another small screen with that post's specific URL in it.

i.e., Ratchet's arm post is here.

Candlehat - February 24, 2012 10:27 PM (GMT)
Ah, thank you!!
And I know, I hate stretched screens too... But, as usual, I fail at coding and don't know how to re size it! D8 I'll be sure to upload resized pictures to Photobucket from now on.

MiraiBaby - February 25, 2012 03:21 AM (GMT)
No worries. :)

There is no actual way to code an image to re-size it; you have to do so manually.

Chest/Shoulders attempt #1 update! See what monstrosity I have created! Update

NatsumeRyu - March 16, 2012 08:11 PM (GMT)
Oooh! :D If that's attempt number 1, I'm looking quite forward to number two for that part. ;) Looks very nice. Srsly, I have no clue have any of you do this paper mock-up stuff. it eludes me. :P

Chest

Aft

Updates finally!!! Sorry for the horribly long wait... I'm back on track now. Breakdown's completion by Mirai Baby inspired me! 8D

Candlehat - April 12, 2012 08:59 PM (GMT)
ARGH apparently I fail at HTML...

Just scroll up and you'll see the stupid pictures... OTL

NatsumeRyu - April 12, 2012 09:07 PM (GMT)
gdfhjgsf. It looks awesome!~ :D May many productive days await you! :D

Have you considered widening the chest to make it more mech-ly? :3

Velocity - April 13, 2012 01:24 AM (GMT)
I love your aft suspenders, there's just something fitting about a Ratchet rig involving suspenders. And your mock-ups so far look good!

Candlehat - April 13, 2012 03:18 AM (GMT)
Thank you so much, guys! And yes, I'll be bulking up the chest tomorrow as a matter of fact!
And haha, I've totally gotta get someone to draw human TFP Ratchet with suspenders now! XD That's awesome.
