Alright, so somebody I know had the idea to have us dress up as Ghostbusters together for comic con... but since neither of us have the financial or material resources to put together a proper proton pack, we decided to go for a futuristic look that would allow us sleeker, and inevitably cheaper, gear. Besides... you gotta love elsewhen versions of canon designs.
So I offered to design and build two sets of cyber-y proton packs instead of making a transformer costume this summer. I really want to broaden my knowledge of materials, so I'm going to be working with some kind of resin for sure, but I don't know if I want to make it out of paper and a little fiberglass like the Halo guys, or if I want to make a silicone mold and all that. I think inevitably the first option will probably be cheaper and less time-consuming, though. I'm pretty good at making identical duplicates out of paper mocks anyways.
So this is the design I have so far:

I've got some ideas on how to make the particle thrower... I don't have a final design for it yet, though.
Anyways, what do you guys think? :3
11.14.09 Here's the basic pack shape. Deviated quite a bit from what I had above, but... you know how that goes. The transition from 2D to 3D is a bumpy one, and for some reason I design 3D things much better in 3D.
