In addition to the well known TRI-WIZARD tournament, is the supplementary competition.

This is known as 'BEAUXBATON'S BRILLIANCE'. NOT to be undertaken by the faint hearted.

The competition begins with a bow to each potential opponent.

Next, the witches and wizards are required to seek out the 'BRILLIANCE' -------- a magical stone of immense power. Iy resembles the OPAL and emits wave upon wave of the brightest light imaginable.

The BRILLIANCE imbues it's finder with the power to spread light wherever they chose. Not just an ordinary light ... oh no! -- but the light of lfe, overwhelming happiness and well being.

I feel that the most noteworthy example of inventiveness in 'BEAUXBATON'S BRILLIANCE' to be the 'Phoenix Flutterby'.

During the contest, each entrant must outguess a guardian phoenix. These birds are ex-members of Hogwarts angel squadron ( Phoenix protectors of Hogwarts cellar of surprise --- where all manner of magical wonders are kept from the prying eyes of 'He who must not be named').

These birds were phoenixes previously under the control of a Shadow clan of Night Goblins. They were once employees of the Death Eaters.

As a means to gain official pardons, they volunteered their services for the tournament.

To outguess a Phoenix, it's number of feathers must be estimated. At the same time, the fabulous bird attempts to confuse each entrant with a dazzling array of spectral rainbow showers.

The scene is a FABULOUS example of the magical side of nature!
