Welcome to Identity Crisis, an online role playing forum board game centered around the DC Comics universe. Presently, this game takes place in the year two-thousand-nine in Metropolis City, one of the largest and wealthiest cities on the face of the planet. Identity Crisis involves young characters before they assume their permanent role as Earth's protectors or the planet's catastrophe, struggling with the mundane routines of everyday life in order to discover their true destiny on a planet in which they do not fit in. These characters must find solutions to the obstacles in which they face each day in order to overcome the difficulties that life puts forward, becoming greater in many aspects in the process.

As a member of Identity Crisis, you have the choice of assuming the role of a canon character (a character that already exists in the DC Comics universe) or creating your own original character with his or her own unique special abilities and powers. During your stay on this forum board, you will work to develop the popularity and social standing of your character by earning hero point credit or HPC for short. HPC determines how well your character is known by the public (either positively for superheroes and heroine or negatively for super villains) and also determines how much influence your character possesses over the city in which they appear in.

This simple but unique system allows for characters to earn popularity and respect from their surrounding environment in a fair fashion in order to prevent very famous superheroes (i.e. Superman, The Flash, Green Lantern, etc) to be considered famous and well-renown without having to work with devotion for the position in which they hold in the DC Comics universe. Furthermore, the greater quantity of HPC your character holds, the greater level of access and control your character will have over his or her own special abilities, making it necessary for great superheroes or super villains to remain active in order to retain their social standing. Furthermore, certain "events" appear on the forum board in order to liven up the activity.

"Strange occurrences" are peculiar events that appear at random on the forum board. These peculiar happenings may range from a helpless child requiring saving (i.e. stroller ambles into bustling traffic) or catastrophes that threaten the safety of Metropolis City (i.e. earthquakes, terrible storms, or other supernatural phenomena). These strange occurrences give superheroes, heroine, and super villains the opportunity to appear in the public eye in order to earn HPC. When these peculiar events are completed, a certain number of HPC (positive or negative) is awarded to the character and forum member that successfully completes the event with little or no errors in the process.

Lastly, the storyline takes place before the canon characters have developed into the characters they will eventually be, meaning that many characters will not have assumed a double identity immediately (i.e. Clark Kent has not yet earned the moniker "Superman") and may not possess all of the abilities they would ordinarily have if they were completely developed. This leaves room for further development, giving forum board members more activities to take part in.
