Hey, I've been looking to find a better antivirus program, because the one I currently use, which is Symantec, is quite frankly a piece of crap and even prevents some programs from running. I've been looking at Avast!; my siblings use it on their computers and I used to use it, but I want to know if it's really as good as everybody says it is. I mean, I have Avast! installed, so is it safe to completely turn off Symantec?

I have always gotten wonderful results with Avast! It's non-intrusive and efficient, and it stops infected incoming connections and disconnects infected media plugged into the computer (flash drives, etc). I recommend it to everyone who makes me fix their computer, and have gotten nothing but complete satisfaction from them, too.

I believe that multiple antivirus programs actually interfere with each other. Only have one running at a time.

isn't symatec norton?

Yes. And yes, that implies all that comes with it.

I've uninstalled it on several computers without incident... could you do that, Gold, or do you feel it's too much of a risk?

If it's causing windows to break, it's worse than what it's trying to prevent.
