If somebody would have asked him a month ago if he would be sitting at the veterinary clinic bottle feeding an orphan foal he would have said that they were nuts. Of course, he wouldn't have thought that he would move away from his home and into a new state a month ago either. But he had and he had realized early on that he would just have to make the best of the situation. After all, it wasn't like his parents would suddenly move back to California again. They were the ones who had decided to move out here to "get a fresh start" in the first place. At first Anthony had been mad at his parents, but it hadn't taken him long to see their reasoning for it. The sixteen year old knew that a lot of it had to do with his. They must have thought that it would do him good to get away from the town where his older brother had died in a tragic accident. Even though almost two years had went by he had trouble holding back the wave sadness that washed over him at the thought of his brother. The accident had happened in the middle of November around nine o'clock or so. His brother had been driving along an old county road and the road conditions hadn't been the best. To this day Anthony still wondered what his brother had even been doing out on that road. Apparently a deer or something had ran across the road, causing his brother to swerve. The car had slid on the ice and flipped down the hill before finally slamming into a pine tree. Only one person lived along that lonely stretch of road and they had heard the commotion and immediately dialed 911. That was all Anthony knew of the story and he didn't wish to know more. Nothing could bring his brother back.

The teenage boy jumped slightly as something bumped his arm. A small laugh escaped him when he realized that it had just been Lucky. The tiny chestnut colt was wanting his bottle. A smile appeared on Anthony's face as he held the bottle up to the colt's muzzle. The foal had been bottle fed ever since he was three days old. His mother had rejected him and that was when he had been brought here a month ago. It didn't surprise him when Lucky began to quickly suckle on the top of the bottle. "Easy buddy, I'm not going anywhere soon take your time." He quietly said to the foal before running one hand down the colt's back. Just last week he had been introduced to one of the veterinarians that worked here by his father. It was then that he had found out that they were looking for volunteers here. He had immediately jumped at the chance, after all he loved working with animals. Not to mention he had figured that this would be a great way to actually meet new people in the town. One of the first things that he had noticed was that most of the people in Twin Falls were involved with horses in some way shape or form. His guess about that had been right and so far he had met a ton of people just by volunteering here. Yet most of the people he had met hadn't even been close to his age. Anthony longed for some actual friends here. Even by attending the riding camp he still hadn't really made any actual friends. This was a sad thing because he really was rather talkative and making friends had never been hard for him. It just seemed as if everybody was busy with their own things.

"I guess that you're the only real friend that I've got so far." He whispered to the foal before leaning back against the stall wall. After looking at the bottle he was rather surprised to find that the colt had drank the entire contents of it. Before he could even get up the tiny foal flopped on his side and rested his head of Anthony's right leg. He was rather surprised by the colt's behavior, he hadn't thought that the foal would be this attached to him. "Now that you drank all of that it's your nap time. You can sleep on me for now, but I do have to leave here eventually." He quietly said to the foal and ran his hand through Lucky's short chestnut mane. The foal was already fast asleep and there was no way Anthony wanted to disturb him. He really didn't have anything else to do at the clinic now. After checking he watch he noted the he needed to be back at the riding camp in two hours. Once he returned there he was considering taking his horse, Buddy, out for a short ride. He'd already participated in an early morning lesson that had went rather well. That had given him almost the whole day to spend doing other things. Unlike some of the people that attended the camp he liked to get as much training time in as possible. It wasn't that he needed to win the show at the end of the camp for the free ride back here next year. He wanted to do well to make his parents proud of him, especially his father. Really he could care less about his mother at the moment. She turned her nose up at the mention of horses, not to mention she had tried to get him home schooled last year.

"Maybe moving here was a bad idea after all." He mumbled before a small sigh escaped him. Even though he had been here a short while he missed all of his friends. Sure a few of his really good friends emailed him every single day. Yet it wasn't the same as talking face to face with them. He had let on to them about his newfound problem of finding it hard to make friends. They had tried to be helpful about things. Yet he knew that he had to solve this problem by himself.
