Geographically east of Cobalt Valley, and south of the Apparatus Spine, these caves have earned their name in spades. Burrowing deep into the mountainside. Hordes of bats inhabit a few select caverns, and swarm out in great numbers during the warmer months.

Sweeping along the southern slopes of the Spine, the Steppes are a harsh and unforgiving place, with very few trees, and little precipitation. Vast herds of caribou traverse the Steppes each summer, providing a moving feast for those daring enough to take up the hunt.

Both alluring and quite dangerous, the thermals are always active, spouting up boiling water every our or so. Heavy mists also coat this expanse of terrain, often blotting out the sun, or the view of the mountains to the north.
